Emeline Tan Profile
A Passion For Skates
Eight years ago, Emeline Tan, 29, an Engineering Graduate, helped out a pregnant friend by taking over her inline skating classes and has not looked back since.
Today, Emeline, is probably the most highly-qualified female inline instructor in Singapore. Not only that, she is also a level three examiner (a certification programme offered by the International Inline Skating Association), the level required to certify other instructors.
But that is not only the feather in her cap. Emeline is also the Marketing & Operations Manager of Skateline (which requires her to manage Skateline’s 5 retail outlets), Head of its Skate School and also a Business Development Manager of Sports Vantage, a sister company of Skateline. She also makes at least 10 overseas trips annually to keep up to date with the latest advancements in inline skating.
Emeline, has close to 40 full-time and part-time instructors under her charge at Skateline’s Skate School and she herself conducts up to six classes per week and specializes in conducting fitness skating classes. Familiar with sign language, she has also coached the hearing impaired. She has even taught a man with a prosthetic leg to skate in six months, an experience she found rewarding.
On top of all her work commitments, Emeline also finds time to master hockey, and dancing on inline skate, snowboard, wakeboard and scuba-dives. Not only that, she also takes part in inline skating marathons, completing 42km at the first annual Disney World Inline Marathon in Florida and many others. An average person would be simply left breathless just reading about her achievements. But Emeline laments that there are still so many things more to do and not enough time to do them.
What's next, we wonder for this wonder girl of sports.
